How to activate and configure the instance system?

Activation of the instance system

Two system parameter tables are needed to activate the instance system

  • $TAB4PTC02 (TABCTL) (= default system settings)
  • $TAB4PTC06 (TABCTL) (= customer specific system settings)

Parameter FL_INSTANC of the tables indicates whether instances are activatedt ("Y") or deactivated ("N"). "N" means that the standard instance is always used (default "N").

The parameter can be filtered and displayed by using the administationn system menu item administration/application/general settings/disp. original system settings:

Parameter FL_INSTANC of the system parameter table $TAB4PTC02:

To activate the instance system the parameter FL_INSTANC must be set to "Y". Therefore, it is entered using administration/application/general settings/edit system settings. In this case the parameter is ignored in the table $TAB4PTC02:

Changed parameter FL_INSTANC in the system parameter table $TAB4PTC06:

The following additional steps are required:

  • Definition of the instance tree
  • configuration of each instance.

After logout and re-login the instances are visible in Login >> BOI >> TABEX/4 Table Manager:

For further information regarding instance tree, instance text and instance configuration see BOIDOC_209b_sec_inst_en.pdf, chapter Instances and databases.
