SSL-IDE and TABEX/4 Console replace TAB-DVL

The SSL-IDE is a development environment for editing, compiling and testing SSL programs and exits. It is based on the framework Eclipse. The look and feel is similiar to development environments for JAVA or Visual C++.

The SSL IDE replaces the following functionalities of TAB-DVL:

  • edit SSL programs: with syntax highlighting
  • compile SSL programs: highlighting of compile errors
  • test and debug SSL programs – trace, set breakpoints, show variables, change the value of variables
  • write EXITs
  • write batch procedures for batch processing or Utility Online

The new SSL development environment SSL IDE version 1.0 is now available (after the beta Test for TABEX/4 version 4.2.2 last year) for all of our customers for TABEX/4 version 4.3.0. It can be downloaded from the customer area since the middle of February as a separate installation package.

The TABEX/4 Console serves as emergency and test program and  should only be used by TABEX administrators because no security mechanisms are implemented. It should only be used if the use of the TABEX/4 table manager is not possible due to misconfiguration.

The following functions can be performed using the TABEX/4 Console:

  • edit tables in databases
  • search in databases
  • show tables in the private address space
  • show tables in SHS data spaces
  • test of APIs
  • SSL development

We recommend to develop SSL solely by using the new SSL-IDE. Its graphical user interface is much more comfortable and offers additional functionalities, such as syntax highlighting, comfortable debug functions, changing of values of variables for testing purposes, version management of source code, and many more.
