Insurance Companies

Typical Requirements

Insurance employees or insurance brokers have to access a multitude of diverse information which is usually stored in tables. Besides master data, necessary information includes parameter data such as rates and control data such as periods of validity.

The calculation of an insurance premium demands the combination of relative information stored in a multitude of different tables. In one single insurance company, several thousands of different tables have to be maintained safely and comfortably and some control tables are accessed billion fold per day.

Another challenge arises from heterogeneous IT-environments where all this information is stored on different platforms and in different database systems.

These challenges lead to tremendous requirements for table access and table maintenance.

TABEX/4 meets these requirements

Table access as well as table management have to be stable and safe.

For more than three decades, TABEX has been used in many top companies in different lines of business, including many well-known insurance companies, without a single productive failure.

Often servers run on mainframes whereas insurance brokers work on site with Windows. Additionally table data are often stored in different databases. In order to make table management and table access in such heterogeneous IT-environments as efficient as possible, one single data management system independent of platforms is required, ideally operating with just one uniform user interface for all kinds of platforms.

TABEX/4 runs independently of platform or database. Tables can thus be managed on various platforms and can be moved across different platforms. On all platforms one uniform user interface is available with identical functions for table access and maintenance for different programming languages. TABEX/4 provides an ODBC-interface as means to access all relational databases.

The immense number of different table data combinations results in a tremendous number of table accesses per day and thus requires high-performance and reliability.

TABEX/4 guarantees optimum and fastest possible table access through the use of a machine-oriented programming language in the TABEX/4 kernel and through the replication of tables in shared storage areas. The TABEX/4 solution economizes CPU resources and leads to significant license cost savings.

A comfortable and easy-to-handle table management system has to enable all end-users in different departments of the insurance company to execute all necessary data changes independently and correctly.

TABEX/4’s intuitive and comfortable user interface enables all departments of a company to create and manage tables with very low effort. Central table storage and local table maintenance prevent data redundancies and isolated applications.

Insurance companies must work offline as well. For example, if an insurance broker presents insurance products to a customer on site, online data access can create excessive data traffic.

Through TABEX/4 replication technology, all table data are provided in offline mode on the client with reading-access only at any time.

Table access and table management has to be possible 24/7.

TABEX/4 replicates tables in shared storage areas (in-memory handling). All data management operations are thus executable without any restrictions at any time.

Internal audits and legal requirements demand traceability of all data changes from IT-departments.

TABEX/4 is audit-proof and fulfils all revision requirements. For requests resulting from laws such as SOA or Euro-SOX, TABEX/4 offers the following functionalities: complete, variable and configurable logging of all table changes, release procedure with dual control (4-eyes principle), versioning of tables for optimum temporal table management, comprehensive checks of data consistency or plausibility and access protection through a fine-tuned authorization system.

Data from different databases or file formats such as MS EXCEL must be smoothly imported in the table management system. Table data must be distributed flexibly to printer, as a PDF, or exported to other databases, file formats or programs.

TABEX/4 allows importing of table data from other software products or other file formats such as MS EXCEL. The import is started right from the user interface and is carried out with execution of logical data checks. With TABEX/4, the possibilities for export or data distribution are manifold.
