WORKING SAFELY WITH DATA IN TABLES
Over 45 years of experience with business-critical data
For more than four decades, BOI has been developing standard software for efficient access to and audit-proof editing of business-critical data in tables.
Our goal: helping companies reliably use their most important information in customer applications.
At the core of our work are four key data types:
- Master data: Fundamental information about customers, products, suppliers, or employees – the basis of almost all business processes.
- Control data: Operational data that dynamically control processes and workflows.
- Reference data: Standardized codes and classifications (e.g., country or currency codes) that ensure consistency.
- Parameter data: Configurable settings that define rules and frameworks for applications and processes.
These four data types are summarized under the term “business-critical data” which serve as the “single source of truth” for business processes.
Why business-critical data deserve special attention
Business-critical data are indispensable – errors or access issues can have serious consequences. That’s why we focus on two essential aspects:
Data maintenance
Incorrect or inconsistent data can quickly lead to malfunctions in customer applications – with potentially high risks and costs. BOI FreeDa ensures error-free, audit-proof editing of business-critical data and efficiently replaces existing solutions.

What existing solutions are available for editing business-critical data?
Business-critical data are usually stored in relational databases. There are different approaches to edit them:
Master and reference data management systems (MDM/RDM)
- They ensure governance, consistency, and synchronization of data in complex IT landscapes. The disadvantage: very high investment and operating costs, which is why only a small number of companies in the DACH region use them.
In-House Developments
- Since MDM and RDM are rarely used company-wide, in-house developments must be implemented. These often have limited functions or, if all requirements are implemented, are very cost-intensive solutions. In-house developments are difficult to maintain and therefore pose a high risk in the long term.
Email & MS Excel
- When the investment required for in-house development is too high, data maintenance processes often rely on email and MS Excel. These non-standardized and error-prone processes carry a high risk and are not suitable for audit-proof processes. They are manual, not automated, and can cause high follow-up costs due to incorrect data.
Database Interfaces
These are primarily aimed at database experts. They are often too complicated for users in operating departments, as their application often requires a great deal of IT know-how. They are also risky to use, as one wrong click can cause significant damage.
Data maintenance with BOI FreeDa
BOI FreeDa
BOI FreeDa bridges the gap between complex, expensive systems such as MDM and RDM, and in-house developments. It replaces error-prone processes involving email and MS Excel, while also offering the capabilities of database interfaces for experts.
BOI FreeDa enables audit-proof and user-friendly editing of business-critical data – without the typical disadvantages of other approaches. With BOI FreeDa, our customers can focus on developing their business logic.
